1961 Houston's George Blanda passed for 505 yards and seven touchdowns en route to a 49-13 victory over the New York Titans.
  Cleveland's Jim Brown rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns, as the Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 45-24.
1965 Bret Hanover, driven by Frank Ervin, won the Messenger at Roosevelt Raceway in New York to complete a sweep of the Pacing Triple Crown.
1983 Edmonton's Jari Kurri scored five goals and Wayne Gretzky netted three goals and five assists, as the Oilers defeated the New Jersey Devils, 13-4.
1990 Pittsburgh's Barry Bonds was named National League MVP.
1992 Oakland's Dennis Eckersley was named American League MVP. Eckersley became the ninth player to win both the Cy Young Award and MVP honors in the same season.
1994 Undefeated Alabama snapped Auburn's 21-game unbeaten streak with a 21-14 win before 83,091 at Legion Field in Birmingham.

  The Baltimore Stallions stomped the Calgary Stampeders 37-20 and became the first U.S. based team to win the Grey Cup in the CFL's 83-year history.

2004 Quarterback Casey Printers of the British Columbia Lions was named the CFL Outstanding Player of the Year.
2006 Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the second quarter against Tennessee and would miss the rest of the year.
  Paul McCallum tied a title game record, making six field goals, while scoring 19 total points as the B.C. Lions posted a 25-14 win over the Montreal Alouettes in the 94th Grey Cup.
  Jaromir Jagr scored his 600th career goal and added two assists as the New York Rangers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1.
2007 Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr announced his retirement.
